First Annual Clan MacColin Family Reunion You are all invited to attend The First Annual Clan MacColin Family Reunion at the Loch Prado (Prado Regional Park) Camp Grounds on the 29th of February through to March 2nd. This will be a pre-registration for both MacColin as well as REC. In addition to various paperwork stuff, we will also offer several workshops, games, the Highland Chef cooking competion, Drunken Kern Obstacle course, and the latest word from Himself. This event will be somewhat chilly so it will not be a period event due to lack of period cold weather gear. This being said, we ask and encourage you to dress out if you can. If nothing else bring your stuff so you can work on it, get advice, approval, etc. As I said before, the Chief will do notes there as well. the cost will be $7.00 for parking for the weekend and i think $3.00 for day parking, as well as a modest $5.00 to the MacColin. I will also remind you that this will be a potluck event. There will be 2 fire pits and possibly running water and electricity. I need to come up with a head count ASAP, so please email me or post on this thread. I look forward to hearing from all of you soon. Check the MacColin Messageboard-MSN for the latest info.

3rd annual Clan MacColin Family Reunion will be held at the Prado Dam Regional Park, February 26th through the 28th. This is a non period event, and rainy, so be prepared. We are going to be out in the rain Fri night/Sat morning, with a Cathy breakfast Saturday. We hope to be having Auction there so bring the stuff you want to auction off, and bring money. The Highland Chef competition and the Drunken Kern Obstacle Course will also be there as usual. This is our chance to get together, get some membership stuff done, and have a real good time.
Since there is a weather concern, here is the nearest weather station with rain data.
Check the Messageboard for the latest info; workshops may be delayed till Sunday due to rain.

Celtic & Historical music show with Simon Spalding in San Pedro Jan 20 & 21
Simon Spalding, long a member of this group but resident in North Carolina for some years, will be back in town next week for a show of sea shanties, Celtic, and historical music. He will be playing as a duo with James Hendricks, whose specialty is 19th Century and Civil War music, but who also plays ragtime and early popular music. Simon plays fiddle, octave mandolin, ukulele, banjo, and Chinese er-hu; James plays piano, button accordion, percussion, and brass instruments. They'll be harmonizing and playing on material from both of their repertoires, so even if you've heard them before this show will be a new experience.
Venue is the Whale & Ale in San Pedro, 327 West 7th Street - shows are 20 and 21 January, Thursday and Friday. Admission is $7.00 - good food and a wide selection of beers, whiskeys, and other libations are available. Phone 310-832-0363 for a table reservation and request a good view so you are not in Siberia - not all tables have a good view of the stage.

Ft. MacArthur This is a period event.
Things to remember! This is not Faire, your behavior will be different because you audience will be different. We are being judged in a variety of mysterious categories by unknown judges. In general our guests will ask more engaged and generally better informed questions, and they will stay for a more complete answer. I expect you will respond in 1st person, in dialect as well as you are able. If you are unable to answer at this level, don't bs an answer, look for a senior member an pretend that your "inglis" is not up to the job. A hackle or a feather, or whom ever you think can answer. If it becomes necessary for you to move out side of 1st person to give a complete answer, do so, but make at least a symbolic attempt to physically distance your self from your character by announcing that you are going to do so. This can be done best by "please sir if you would step this way, " On this I must speak privily." asking them to follow and by really move away. another method Announce discretely as before and lower your volume and try to use the same rhythm you use in 1st person but deal with the subject in a modern way. And lastly, if you must deal with a danger or something requiring an immediate answer, use your normal modern tone and structure and speak clearly. and as loudly as the situation requires.
Your appearance and the correctness of that appearance is also very important. Get all the gewgaws off you costume, present your self in you best clothes, in there best condition. don't be afraid of the iron. Everything should be mended and clean, If it shines polish it, if it is leather oil it, if metal, de rust it. These are laudable things to be working on in public. repair it. If you are using borrowed items, bring them up to snuff to the best of your ability. Be clean and mended. Be available, there will be duty rosters. We have a variety of parade like duties, as well as operating the camp.
Check in with your senior concerning what supplies to bring, I know that often fire wood is needed, as well as water. All for now. more later.

Wappenshaw Sunday, July 28, 2013 11:00am until evening The Machado's Home, in Redlands, 92374 (see BB) A gathering for as many purposes as we can muster. Personas in particular are on the agenda --- bring any and all questions, but be prepared to do your own research and development. Woodworking is highly likely, furniture specifically. Bring your projects and tools. Anything else you want to know about? Anything you feel you can contribute? Let us know. POTLUCK and BYOBeverage (please do not impose on your kinfolk), and if you bring raw meat, there will be a BBQ available. Also, we'd like this to be a productive event. It has been kindly requested by your kin that if all you're going to do is distract people with idle conversation and keep them from being productive, feel free to occupy yourself elsewhere.

Ragnarok   -- "The world will end in 100 days": Ragnarok - the Viking Apocalypse - predicted for 22 February 2014:
http://www.sourcewire.com/news/80556/the-world-will-end-in-days-ragnarok-the-viking
The sound of an ancient horn heard reverberating across the rooftops of York this evening is a portent of doom and the beginning of a countdown to the Norse apocalypse, according to experts in Norse mythology from the JORVIK Viking Centre. “Following a study published in 2010* that bearded men are more trustworthy than those without, we’re also looking for fantastic displays of facial hair, so that we can identify those with the potential to take us into the brave new world that is foretold to follow Ragnarok.”

McGonagall NiteOn Saturday night, Sept. 27, we shall gather to celebrate the death of the worst poet in the English language, William Topaz McGonagall. The evening progresses like a Burns Night, but in reverse. We start with whiskey and cigars, and bad poetry. Then dessert (Tipsy Laird or Dark Chocolate Mousse), and more bad poetry. Then dinner (standing rib roast, roasted potatoes, vegetable), and more bad poetry; then soup and more bad poetry; then appetizers, and even more bad poetry.

Tent Stuff Prep & Trailer Reload
Prepare/Retrieve/Repair/Replace tent poles and lines, and into the trailer.
There is more work that needs to be done before Ft Mac.
There are not enough poles or ropes for the store tent.
Chief needs new ropes for his tent and dog bones. There were only 10 of 16. (Dog bones will be made).
The dog bones and rope put next to Beau's tent were not in the trailer. Also, his frame needs to be made. (Beau do you have the ropes and dog bones? If so you need to bring them on the 27th of June.)
The Jacobs need new ropes. They have dog bones.
Over 2 years this group has lost 60-90 stakes. Bring accumulated spares.
If these things are not done these tents won't be at Ft Mac.
Words from Kaz the new temp Slumlord: So next Saturday 9am, June 27th we need people to come back to the Nelsons to finish this off, because we don't want to be working on July 4th!

Hogmanay at Duntamknacken with Clan Colin
Greetings. The Colin wishes to invite all members of the Clan, both North & South, to celebrate Hogmanay at Duntamknacken this Year. Because of the Colin's advancing years, we cannot be sure how many more there will be here at the Clann's home. I must apologize for the lateness of this invitation but both myself & my wife have developed a severe case of manyanaism and it seems to get worse with age. The Colin.

This is a great opportunity to see friends, feast, lift a glass, and sing Christmas carols. It is a potluck party, so when you RSVP say what you are bringing. If you have any gifts for other Clan members, bring them and put them under the tree and Santa Bill will distribute them.
